What do your extensions need?
Okay, let’s be real; hair extensions are expensive. So, how do you maintain them so that they last the longest and keep looking amazing? To start, all the hair we sell at Just Peachy is from EasiHairPro. They are the ONLY brand that offers a 6-month warranty should something go wrong with your extensions (think excessive shedding or discoloration). All their hair is 100% human Remy Chinese hair, simply because this hair is the strongest. All the hair has been through a long process to achieve the desired colours. Hence, your hair extensions will need more day-to-day moisture and care.
Daily Maintenance Routine
Step 1: Brush your hair at least twice daily. It might seem a bit scary, but you want to avoid any knots or, even worse, matting in your hair. Use a gentle Tangle Teezer brush (never a comb), starting from the bottom and working your way up. When you go to bed at night, tie your hair up in a low ponytail or braid to prevent tangling and reduce pulling/pressure on your hair follicle.
A day at the beach:
Obviously, when the weather is gorgeous, you want to go to the beach or take a dip in the pool. However, there are a few “rules” you should adhere to. Try not to get your hair wet whether it’s in the pool or ocean, as it’s going to dry your extensions out and might even cause discoloration (turning yellow, eek!). If you do swim, tie your hair in a top knot to keep it from getting wet.
Secondly, sunscreen is crucial; sunscreens can be harmful to extensions and can turn them orange/pink if they contain the following ingredients: Avobenzone and Octocrylene. Check your ingredients and keep your extensions away from sunscreen.
Washing Techniques
When shampooing, we always show our clients to also shampoo the scalp underneath the extension, as it’s important you don’t get product buildup and an irritated scalp from not washing properly.
We always recommend a sulfate-free shampoo, and advise you to switch your conditioner for a mask, as a mask is more deeply penetrating and will give your hair extensions the moisture and softness they need. We also recommend adding a hair oil or leave-in conditioner to your routine.
Professional Maintenance
Regular visits to your stylist are crucial. Hair extensions are high maintenance, and you simply cannot stretch your touch-up appointments where we remove your extensions and reapply them higher. Your stylist will check the condition of your extensions, perform necessary adjustments, and provide treatments that enhance the longevity and appearance of your extensions. Typically, it’s recommended to see your stylist every 6-8 weeks.
With the right care and attention, your hair extensions can continue to enhance your beauty and boost your confidence. Remember, well-maintained extensions not only look better but are also more comfortable and easier to style.
